De Gevreesde Ziekte - I

Review by Bonno Zwaan

Not much is known about this project. The two track demo ‘I’ is going to be released through our partner Zwaertgevegt on tape. Alex was kind enough to send me the digital link for this review and I was hyped. The artwork looks really intriguing and a bit Wiegedood-esque.

If you know what Dutch black metal is then you know what you are in for. Fast paced lo-fi raw black metal. The raw Dutch language really adds to the raw black metal that De Gevreesde Ziekte produces on ‘I’. The demo is actually nice produced and to compare it to other demo’s I’ve heard, this is one of the better sounding demos I’ve heard in a long while.

Throughout the two track demo, you do hear some influences from the atmospheric black metal side and from the style that the Icelandic black metal bands play. The slower darker icy cold riffs mixed with distant screams are greatly entwined with the fast blasting parts which do make the demo very interesting to listen to. Take all that in and add the filthy Dutch language and you’ve got some excellent black metal. During the track ‘De Gevreesde Zieke’, you will hear one of the most memorable moments of this demo. The chorus is very catchy and will be in your head for the longest time, trust me I’ve been there.

The demo has a very high replay value and will be a stellar release for Zwaertgevegt. Hopefully the band will release an EP or a full length as fast as possible.
