Deadspeak -
Plagues Of Sulfur Bound

Deadspeak are an upcoming death metal band out of The Netherlands, to be more specific, from the northern part of The Netherlands. They’ve been around since 2021 when they released their very first EP called ‘Dissolve the Dreams’ through the dutch old school death metal label Raw Skull Recordz. Now it is finally ready for their very first and highly anticipated full length ‘Plagues of Sulfur Bound’ also released through Raw Skull Recordz on CD and vinyl. Into It Records is handling the cassette version.

Being engulfed in Dutch death metal lately, Deadspeak could be a fresh take on death metal if they have extended their style from their ‘Dissolve the Dreams’ EP to ‘Plagues Of Sulfur Bound’. And they did. They upped their game with the production and their songwriting. The drums have gotten the biggest upgrade with tighter production and sound. It enhances the whole sound of the band a lot more. The whole sound of Deadspeak sounds a lot murkier and more vile than ‘Dissolve the Dreams’. Especially during the song ‘Tidal Disruption’, Deadspeak takes the element of doom to a swamp-like level. Absolute filth by them and the only response I can give during that bit, is nodding in approval with a stank face.

It is not normal that an old school influenced death metal band is making songs longer than 5-ish minutes. Deadspeak gives that statement 2 middle fingers since ‘Tidal Disruption’ and ‘Polarisation in Times Of Dispossession’ are respectable 7 minutes and 9 minutes long. This is also one of the new improvements they’ve done regarding their ‘Dissolve the Dreams’ EP back in 2021.

Usually what metal bands do is put everything they like to show their fans into those longer songs. Deadspeak does the same, which is absolutely fine. Show me what you’ve got! And to be fair, it fits the album. With a lot of albums it is unnecessary to put longer than 5 minute songs in there but with Deadspeak this works all fine. It does help that the guys are playing death/doom style death metal but that isn’t an excuse. It is how you execute it and before you know, the 9-minute ‘Polarisation in Times Of Dispossession’ is all over. That is how you make long songs. Make time fly by with your music and that is exactly what Deadspeak did.

Do not just listen to the 9-minute track but the whole album flies by so quickly. It sounds old school, nasty, filthy and swampy and that is exactly what Deadspeak was going for in my opinion. It is a great addition to the Dutch death metal scene and Raw Skull Recordz and Deadspeak have made an amazing decision to release this beast to the fans of old school death metal. So if you like the sound of the Dutch style of death metal, you will 100% enjoy this ‘Plagues Of Sulfur Bound’ beast by Deadspeak.
