Korpse - Insufferable Violence

Korpse - Insufferable Violence.jpg

Review done by Bonno Zwaan.

So as many of you know, Korpse is maybe THE heaviest band The Netherlands has to offer right now. After two full lengths, Korpse has made the big boy step towards the most brutal label that is out now, Unique Leader Records. Insufferable Violence is going to be their magnum opus, that is for sure, I’m certain of that. So, if anybody has been living under a rock and doesn’t know Korpse, Korpse are a Dutch brutal death metal band from Bussum in The Netherlands. They have made their self-titled full length all by themselves and after that they became very known in the Dutch death metal scene. Their second full length ‘Unethical’ was released through Rising Nemesis Records and they gained some recognition with the bigger audiences. Korpse is now signed with Unique Leaders Records and they are ready to introduce their brutalness to the world.

The 8-track full length has been hyped up by Unique Leader Records and the band for a long time. With their previous releases being such amazing records, this should be right up there or even better than their self-titled and ‘Unethical’. Those albums were a step forward each time and now we have arrived at the magnum opus as I said.

After listening to ‘Insufferable Violence’ I know I’m in for something heavy. The opening track ‘PTSD’ is an instrumental track that really embodies and prepares you for what is coming towards you. The title-track of the album really punches you right in the face after you are done with ‘PTSD’. ‘Insufferable Violence’ introduces you to the absolutely brutal vocals of Sven. Combine that with the outrage unleashed by the rest of the band and you will have the pure raw power of Korpse.

Mixed into that nasty heaviness, is the bass. Robin does have a lot of experience in the brutal style of death metal with his history in Cadaverous (also a brutal death metal band). You can absolutely hear his filthy murky bass on my favourite track of the album ‘Self Preservation’. Robin does have a big moment of fame where he introduces one of the heaviest slams on ‘Insufferable Violence’.

It is crazy how good nowadays death metal can sound. The guttural style vocals, the unrelenting guitar/bass riffs and of course the uncontrolled heavy madness that is being created on the drums by Marten. Probably the most experienced member of Korpse, Marten has been in so many bands that play the brutal style of death metal. I don’t need to explain that Marten's style of drumming fits Korpse better than any other drummer can do.

And then we might have the hardest working man I’ve seen in the current brutal death metal scene. The man behind so many brutal death metal/slam sounds, it is Floor. You might know him from his other projects Fermented Masturbation, Carnifloor, xFxOxExSx and his most current side project Focal Dystonia. I’ve listened to every single band that he was/is in and his work on ‘Insufferable Violence’ is the best I’ve heard him do.

To say that this is their best work is an understatement. Korpse has made themselves into the heaviest band from The Netherlands without a single doubt. ‘Insufferable Violence’ is filled with absolute gore, slams, blasting greatness. All of the talent that the guys have, has been unleashed upon this record and it is such an amazing banger. This could be the heaviest album that The Netherlands has seen in a long time for sure.

Korpse has established themselves with this record through Unique Leader Records and I am more than certain that this will get them on the biggest brutal death metal stages like Maryland Deathfest, Netherlands Deathfest and many other brutal fests. I know that a lot of people will list this as a slam record and you won’t do Korpse enough justice with that. Yes I know, there are a lot of slams splattered around the record but nonetheless it is a brutal death metal record. Korpse kills and the world will know about that by now.

9 out of 10.
